God Bless and keep you Bob Ufer....you were one of my parents as every Saturday I sat by the radio, your discriptions of the game and my imagination was alive...you are the reason I'm such a fan of Meeechigan.....I feel for those who never got to enjoy him during a game....I still remember 1969 OSU

One more thing about playing in Dallas, Texas in early September. It's HOT! I mean real damn HOT! Equator HOT! It could well be around 95-100 degrees if kickoff is around 2:30 p.m. (our time) and might not dip below 88 degrees at night (if started at 7 p.m., local time).
Think you Michiganders are ready for that?!?
We don't do autumn in North Texas - it's a three-day weekend. Leaves don't turn golden; they burn ... along with the lawns if not watered 24/7 in summertime. You can easily play golf in North Texas in January in shirt sleeves. The weather is iffy at best (today there are tornadoe warnings all around the area and it's almost freaking November!).
So WHY come here to play that game?

The answer to the Iowa post-game podcast trivia question about Sparty is YES - they've been number one but it happened at a time, perhaps, before you guys were born.

The years were 1965 and 1966 and following UM's great 1964 season, led by QB Bob Timberlake, came two of MSU's greatest teams ever. Perhaps THE TWO greatest teams.

It was the era of Bubba Smith (the pride of Houston, Texas), RB Clinton Jones, QB Steve Juday, WR Gene Washington, and LB George Webster, coached up by Duffy Daugherty.

MSU was ranked number 1 in the UPI poll going into the Rose Bowl but Sparty lost to UCLA.

In 1966, the Spitoons were again number 1 in UPI and number 2 in AP when they played the Fighting Irish in East Lansing before 81,000 people WAY beyond capacity at that time). And when the dirt and dust settled, it was a sister-kissing fest at 10-10.

Sparty hasn't seen that kind of success since.

And now you know...
